This agreement describes the software license for Hangrail releases. The licensor is the Hangrail project maintainer, who can be contacted at hangrail@outlook.com. The website and support are also subject to the Terms of Service. For information on how data is handled, see the Privacy Policy.

Free License to Use the Software

Subject to this agreement, you may install and use Hangrail free of charge for personal purposes or internal organizational work, and keep the installation packages and backup copies necessary for those purposes. This is a non-exclusive license to use the software. It does not transfer copyright or trademark rights in the software.

Free use does not require a Hangrail account. You choose whether to enable optional sync and sharing features. Charges for third-party storage or network services are separate from software license fees.

Rights in the Software and Content

Rights to the Hangrail software and its original materials are reserved by their respective rights holders. You must not impersonate the author, falsely present a version or endorsement as official, remove rights notices, or repackage and resell Hangrail without permission. Contact the project maintainer first for distribution, modification or commercial licensing needs beyond this agreement. These restrictions do not apply to acts permitted by law or another applicable license.

You retain your existing rights to the data you save, create and share. Using the software does not require you to transfer ownership of that data to the project maintainer or authorize its use for advertising.

Third-Party Components

Third-party components used by Hangrail are governed by their own licenses. This agreement does not reduce rights already granted by those licenses or change their obligations. Open the bundled notices from “Open Source Licenses…” in the Mac app menu or “View Third-Party Licenses” in Windows settings.

This agreement applies to Hangrail releases. If source code or third-party materials carry a separate license, that license applies to them. Providing the software free of charge does not mean that copyright in all materials has been transferred.

Permissions and Release Status

Grant system permissions according to the features you choose, and verify the download source and installation package identity. The current version uses development signing. The first Windows installation may require you to manually trust the development certificate, and Mac may show a first-launch prompt. See the installation guides for the steps and scope of impact.

You can pause collection, disable optional online features or stop using the app. For backups before uninstalling, restoring system settings and removing Windows certificate trust, see the Guide to Uninstalling and Removing Certificate Trust.

Liability and License Termination

The project maintainer does not guarantee that the software is suitable for every device or purpose. Keep separate copies of important data, and check the operation’s results and scope of impact before syncing, restoring, clearing data or uninstalling.

Any limitation of liability applies only to the extent permitted by applicable law. It does not exclude liability that cannot legally be excluded, including liability for personal injury or property damage caused by intent or gross negligence, nor does it reduce your legal rights.

You can terminate the software license by stopping use and uninstalling the software. For a material breach of this agreement, the licensor may, in accordance with the law, require infringement to cease or terminate the relevant license. Any notice or opportunity to remedy required by law or agreement must be provided. Termination does not give the project maintainer the right to delete your private data. Third-party licenses and lawful rights and obligations that have already arisen are not extinguished by termination.

Changes to this agreement and dispute resolution are governed by the Terms of Service and applicable law. Any other licensing arrangements must be expressly agreed separately between the rights holder and the user.
