About Hangrail

Hangrail is a temporary shelf at the edge of your desktop for text, screenshots, files, and notes. Gather what you need for the task, then search, preview, copy, or drag it to another app when you need it, with less hunting between windows.

A place for the materials you're working with

When preparing email attachments, collect a few documents and images, check them, then drag them into your draft together. When sorting information, save a passage or write a note to pick up later. Hangrail offers Clothesline, Balloons, and Bottom Cards themes, all using the same library.

Hangrail has macOS and Windows clients. Everyday content stays on your device, with no Hangrail account required. To use it across devices, connect your own WebDAV storage or send selected content with Nearby Sharing. You can also export an encrypted backup before changing computers. See the Tutorials.

Improved through everyday use

Hangrail is continuously maintained by its developer. This website explains its features and use. Public release history is available on the GitHub releases page. To report a problem, share a use case, or point out a tutorial that differs from the app, please Contact us.

Website demos use prepared samples and do not read your actual screen, files, or clipboard. For details on how the client handles content and network features, see the Privacy Policy.

Inspiration and implementation

Hangrail was inspired by Tendedero and Paste. File transfer, collection, search, cross-device use, backup, and other features are built and maintained by Hangrail's developer to meet their own needs.
